The Lincoln Continentals first began performing in the Lincoln Community in December of 1946. Since that time, our music has been performed throughout Nebraska and the United States. Today, the organization is stronger than ever with more than 70 members in the chorus and several chapter quartets. We are constantly striving for a better a cappella sound and work very hard to entertain our audiences. There's nothing like men's a cappella singing!
The Continentals perform throughout the state at a variety of venues. Aside from our own annual concert held in April, our waffle feed in
October, and our holiday show in December, we also sing in many other places for a variety of groups. Over the years we have sung at the capitol for Statehood Day, the Lofte Community Theatre barn opening, husker basketball and football games, the state fair, assisted living facilities, and churches. We have also sung at many of our own member's weddings and anniversaries. We love to perform!
American Harmony Movie Comes to Lincoln
The movie is an in-depth look at the amazingly rich
subculture of a true American art form. It follows the lives of some of the
biggest names to emerge from international competition in the Society’s history,
as well as interviews with rank-and-file members, called “Joe Barbershoppers.”
The film features four prominent Society quartets – OC Times, Max Q, Vocal
Spectrum, and Reveille – over a span of years, on stage and at home, in their
personal quests for international recognition as they experience the thrill of
victory, and the agony of not quite making it. American Harmony will be showing
at the Mary
Riepma Ross Media Arts Center, October 2-15, 2009.
Abendmusik Features Crossroads Quartet
The Crossroads Barbershop Quartet has entertained
audiences across the nation with their variety of
musical stylings, including jazz, blues, gospel and
pop. Bring the entire family and enjoy an afternoon of family-friendly
song and showmanship. We’ll finish the concert with
an old fashioned ice cream social to tantalize your
sense of taste as well as your love of music.
Sunday, October 11, 2009 at 4pm at First Plymouth
Congregational Church, 20th & D Streets. Tickets -
$15.
Continentals' Director Retired in December
It is with great sadness that we announce that the Lincoln Continentals' Musical Director retired in December after almost 30 years as Director of the chorus. As a result, the Continentals are currently conducting a search for a new Director. We prefer someone with a music education background, with experience directing a barbershop chorus, and who is a a great motivational leader.
Continentals Support Area Youth
The Lincoln Continentals hosted their annual Youth In Harmony event at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska on March 9th. This event is has become popular with high schools all around the state of Nebraska, with past attendance of almost 400 young men. The Continentals, in cooperation with other area barbershop groups, hold this event to encourage the arts in schools and promote a capella singing among young men. This day-long event culminated with a concert in the evening.
